WP1 focuses on developing and implementing effective monitoring strategies for riverine ecosystem health and GHG emissions in the Mekong. Specifically, four sampling campaigns will be conducted in the first year of the project that covers four major provinces in the Mekong, Ben Tre, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Ca Mau.
Preliminary visit
Purposes
Visit the 36 potential shrimp farms including 12 (super)intensive farms, 12 rice-shrimp farms, and 12 mangrove-shrimp farms
Introduce the project to the local stakeholders, including local authorities, related companies, shrimp farmers and involved researchers
Visit the local lab and PhD candidate
Implement the kick-off meeting with local partner

First sampling campaign - before shrimp cultivation
Purposes
Collect water, sediment, and gas samples at the 30 potential shrimp farms, including 10 (super)intensive farms, 10 rice-shrimp farms, and 10 mangrove-shrimp farms
Measure physico-chemical, biological, and meteorological variables in each farm and in their channel water supply and discharge
Analyse water and sediment samples at Can Tho University
Explain and disseminate the importance of collecting the data systematically to the stakeholders and farmers
